Joan Crawford began her career in the early 1920's as a hoofer in traveling theater and as a chorus girl on Broadway. With her good looks and shapely gams, Hollywood came calling. Calculating and determined, she built an image of the hotsy totsy, good hearted flapper, which eventually brought unlimited opportunities, turning her into one of Hollywood's most prominent and highest paid stars; with a career that spanned 45 years. But it was her personal life that often made the headlines. Married 4 times, a fondness for hard liquor, generous with charities and heartless towards frenemies. Joan's life was the epitome of the classic 'rags to riches', self made, no nonsense woman, that was a screenplay in itself. Despite numerous setbacks in her career, Crawford's legacy is cemented as one of Hollywood's utmost enduring and glamorous movie stars. She died of a heart attack at approximately 69 years of age. (No birth certificate exists that can confirm her exact age, although, I suspect she was older than her publicist claimed.)
