Vivien Leigh, the lovely British actress who began her film career in the early 1930's, before landing the most coveted role of the decade - Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind; thus becoming a Hollywood household name. Forever labeled as "beautiful but difficult", she felt more at home honing her craft on a theater stage than a sound stage. Married to Sir Laurence Olivier for twenty years, collaborating on several films together, they would have been considered a powerhouse couple back in the day. However, throughout her stellar career, Vivien was plagued by manic depression and chronic tuberculosis; from which she succumbed to at age 53. She was one of the finest leading ladies of her time, and undoubtedly the only one who could have brought the petulant, strong willed southern belle, Scarlett O'Hara, to life, as she did. Two Academy Awards, one British Academy Award, two New York Film Critics Circle Awards, a Tony Award, Leigh was not a film star, she was an actress!
