The black-capped chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) is a tiny, energetic bird common across the northern United States and southern Canada. Very similar to its cousin, the Carolina chickadee (Poecile carolinensis) in the southeast, it can be distinguished by its darker underbelly and a slight variation in song. May eat a variety of seeds, berries, and insects, depending on the time of year. Population is fairly stable, even showing some slight growth.
