AI Bot Summary

The Tea-Tox blend from the CommuniTEA packet evokes diverse reactions, mainly highlighting its peppermint and cinnamon prominence, with mixed feelings about its other herbal ingredients. While some find the blend comforting and beneficial for digestion and relaxation, noting a lack of medicinal taste, others critique it for its strong minty and cinnamon flavors overshadowing subtler components like lemon balm or dandelion. Suggestions for longer steeping to fully extract flavors from root ingredients like burdock and dandelion were made. Opinions vary from enjoying the tea for its health benefits and unique taste, to finding it too peculiar for their palette. Overall, this tea is appreciated for its soothing properties, particularly for digestive issues, with a preference for a more balanced blend of its varied herbal components.

I had a concoction of herbal ingredients in my communiTEA packet today. Moderate woody, peppermint and cinnamon aromas were noted.

I stuck with the recommended steeping instructions of five minutes at 212°F.

When hot, moderate sweet peppermint and earthy flavors were noted. Cinnamon zings were noted on the tongue. Mild bitter aftertastes were noted. I added a wee bit of sugar to hold off the bitterness.

When warm, no bitterness was noted. Burdock earthy flavors were moderate. Moderate bittersweet milk thistle flavors were noted. Strong peppermint and cinnamon flavors were forward. A mild woody taste was noted from the rooibos tea. I didn’t taste lemon balm or dandelion toasty or nutty flavors.

In the end, this was a mishmash of muddled ingredients that were overpowered by the peppermint and cinnamon. Too many odd tasting flavors were in this blend for me to enjoy. I’ll leave detoxing to my healthy liver and kidneys to deal with. (5 mins @ 212ºF, ⅛ tsp sugar)

I always keep a tin of this tea in my stash. It works wonders on upset tummies, allergy aches, or just a case of the blahs. Very relaxing and comforting for body and soul! No medicinal taste as some detox teas can be. I like to throw in some herbs from my garden when steeping...fresh lemon balm, mint and lavender. Lovely tea! Like a hug in a cup!

This was a surprisingly tasty tea for being a medicinal one. It was mildly minty with an earthy taste that seemed well balanced. Only a whisper of cinnamon could be detected when I sweetened and chilled a mini cup of it which gave the tea more interest and depth but wasn’t overwhelming which I liked. This tea immediately relaxed me and almost made me sleepy.

The peppermint-scented 3 grams/ 1.5 tsp of dry tea from the CommuniTEA packet looked very earthy with the many beige and brown knobby and seed-like herb pieces mixed in with the green rooibos tea and peppermint leaves. I brewed at 200F for 5 min. and used 8 oz. of water. The tea had a mild peppermint scent and taste when sipped hot. The pleasantly earthy flavor touched with mint was sweet enough to sip plain. I didn't detect a lemon flavor from the lemon balm nor the cinnamon flavor until the tea was chilled. It seemed the earthy taste of the herbs worked in concert so all of the flavors contributed to the taste of the tea without individually popping out. Only the mild peppermint flavor remained throughout the sip. Sweetening with honey brightened all flavors and being an herbal tea, this one has no caffeine or astringency. There was no bitterness even when brewed with a smaller amount of water for a longer time on the resteep to reboot the flavor.

Can I say this about the name of the tea? Tea-tox tea is a very purposeful name, it tells you what the tea does or is meant for. Maybe a more nuanced name would be a more elegant way to offer this to someone as a tea choice. How about sipping New You or New Ewe Tea for the transformation of your sheepish and sluggish body so that you can feel new again. Although the old adage, “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” might apply here, Tea-Tox it is.

Ingredients & Lore

blended with burdock, milk thistle, green rooibos tea, cinnamon, peppermint leaves, lemon balm & dandelion root

Burdock is a plant with prickly heads known as burrs. The burrs can be a bit of a hassle when they cling to pet fur or clothing, but the usefulness of the rest of the plant more than makes up for any other irritations. The roots are common in Asian cuisine, and in the past, leaves were simmered in milk to counteract snake venom. Milk thistle is another plant with a spikey top, though with a lovely purple flower instead of a burr. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine.
