Arabica tea is made from the leaves of the coffee plant, which are unique from coffee beans in that the brewed flavor is light bodied, herb-like, and somewhat neutral. It pairs especially well with citrus flavors, like that of the bergamot fruit in classic Earl Grey tea. A valuable source of antioxidants, with low caffeine, and an easy to brew, light-bodied, refreshing citrusy taste, our Earl Grey Arabica is a truly novel take on an old favorite. Please note, this herbal blend contains a small amount of caffeine.

Arabica Earl Grey tea presents a lighter, unique twist on the classic Earl Grey, combining arabica leaves with traditional bergamot and orange flavors. Reviewers appreciate its gentle base and aromatic, fruity notes, highlighting its health benefits and lower caffeine content. While some relish the innovative blend for its pleasant taste and the economic benefits it provides to coffee leaf harvesters, others miss the robustness of traditional black tea bases or find the arabica flavor incompatible with Earl Grey's essence. Mixed reactions also emerge regarding the blend's pepperiness and aroma, with a consensus on its mild, citrusy charm and varying opinions on its execution as an Earl Grey variant.

Opened the packet to be greeted with a nice Earl Grey aroma. Steeped for 5 mins@180°. This tea has an Earl Grey light taste, very pleasant. I really like the arabica leaf flavor. It is light bodied with fruity notes. I would like to sample it on it's own. This blend is a nice spin on Earl Grey. For those who cannot tolerate caffeine it is a great alternative. This tea is also a healthful one loaded with polyphenols. Looking forward to trying other blends with arabica leaf.
I read that coffee plants are left alone for many months after coffee bean harvest. The growers and especially harvesters have to find other means of income during that period. When they harvest the coffee leaves for tea it generates income for those people and sustains them until the next coffee bean harvest.
Different cultures around the world have been enjoying the arabica leaf tea for centuries. Love that Adagio has brought it to communiTea to try. I most likely would not have sampled it otherwise.
Love this blend.

Earl Grey light! This Arabica Earl Grey was one of the lightest tasting versions of Earl Greys I’ve sipped so far. The tea base of Arabica or coffee tea leaves is gentle and allows the bergamot and orange flavors to take center stage. These two flavors are nicely proportioned and not too bold in taste to match the milder tone of Arabica tea base well.

My CT packet had 3 g/ 3 1/4 tsp. of mildly scented bergamot with a mix of sage and moss green Arabica leaves, an orange piece and some pale blue cornflowers. I steeped 12 oz. at 212F in my IngeniTEA and by the 5 minute mark most of the tea leaves had fallen to the bottom. The first hot sip of the dark golden liquor was bergamot flavored. As the tea cooled more to room temp. an orange flavor came forward and I also detected a hint of an earthy taste coming from the Arabica tea base. There was no bitterness or astringency noted. I preferred this tea sweetened with mild Tupelo honey to brighten all flavors. A 6 oz. resteep was much milder in taste and the sweetened and chilled version of this tea was flavorful and very pleasant to sip. Even had a whisper of a coffee note when tasted cold.

I love that Arabica leaves come from coffee plants. It links my love of coffee to tea. Drinking Arabica tea has many health benefits too but the best reason to sip this tea is that it helps others. The coffee pickers in Central America pick coffee for 3 months of the year before they have to move to the next job. However, picking coffee leaves for this increasingly popular tea allows pickers to work 9 months a year in one spot without having to move so much. This gives them a steadier income and a more permanent place to be for most of the year. So pinkies up for being a good and supportive tea drinking neighbor.

There was quite a lot of Arabica tea leaves noted in my communiTEA packet. Two orange peels were also present. The blue cornflowers were a no-show. Bergamot aromas were strong!

I had 1.57 grams of ingredients, enough for only a dinky 6-¼ ounce steep! I can tell that I’m gonna have to take small sips to make this one last. I steeped at 200°F ‘cause I don’t like steeping anything higher than that unless it’s a tisane, herbal, or rooibos tea. I can’t imagine steeping any Earl Grey longer than five minutes, so five minutes it was!

When hot, bergamot flavors were moderate. Orange flavors were mild. There was a mild citric sour taste from the bergamot. Mild peppery tastes and zings were noted from the arabica leaves. I added a wee bit of sugar to bring out orange flavors and sweeten up the whole deal.

When warm, arabica pepper zings moderated. Bergamot flavors remained mild. Moderate orange peel and pith flavors were noted..

From what I could determine, the arabica leaves did not really have any particular flavor, but they did provide a great base for distributing the bergamot flavoring. If you want to know what bergamot tastes like, this one’s definitely for you. Bergamot is already citrusy, but with addition of orange, it really shines! (5 mins @ 200ºF, ⅛ tsp sugar)

6/6/2021 - Middle of the road feelings towards this version of Earl Grey. EG is my favorite tea....I have several versions in my tea stash, and its in several blends I love. But I'm finding that I really don't love EG when it isn't made with black tea. I've tried rooibos, green and now arabica....and it just isn't my Earl. I brewed 212F, 8 minutes. I backed off the brew time a bit as I wasn't sure how much caffeine this was going to hit me with....definitely had that Earl taste...the bergamot was there, but the accompanying solid tea taste was not there. It might grow on me over time, but this tea just falls short of my fav black tea/bergamot combo. It was ok...very much drinkable....but not one I would purchase. Brewing some bravo now to have a a cup of My Earl. Others who don't really care for the in-your-face of black tea might really find this more enjoyable for them! Just not an Earl for me....
11/13/2022 - Since I first tried this tea, I have learned that my body just doesn't have a good reaction to arabica. So, I think it's less I'm not enjoying this Earl, or I don't like Earls that are made with teas other than black tea (as I loved the Pu'erh one we just tried in CT) but the fact that my body just doesn't appreciate arabica tea. I've had to put it on my no drink list with ginseng, chamomile and mate.

'Drinking tea for health
Tastes quite delicious today'
Arabica said.

'Hmmm how much caffeine?'
Earl Grey wore his spectacle
To read the fine print.

'Nice,' Earl Grey proclaimed,
' We have antioxidants,
And just trace caffeine'

Ingredients & Lore

blended with arabica tea, orange, natural bergamot flavor & blue cornflowers

Coffee leaves tea, or "kuti," had been made in Ethiopia and Indonesia for centuries. It has an earthy, herbaceous flavor with notes of sweetgrass, similar to green tea. Coffee leaves contain more antioxidants than blueberries, chocolate or green tea.

A London Fog is a popular coffee shop combination of Earl Grey tea, steamed milk, and vanilla. Though its true origins are unknown, it's said to have started in Vancouver, Canada, possibly as a coffee alternative for a pregnant customer who was trying to avoid caffeine. It's perhaps ironic then that we've brought things back to coffee in this Earl Grey blend by swapping out traditional, high caffeine black tea for naturally low caffeine coffee leaves. No matter which leaf you prefer in your Earl Grey though, we guarantee a good cup!

Do the new arabica leaf coffees taste anything like coffee? I hate coffee, so if that flavor comes thru, I wouldn't like these teas.
