The Linzer torte (German for "cake) originated in 1653 in Linz, Austria. It is thought to be the oldest cake recipe in the world. Although there have been many iterations throughout the centuries, its mainstay characteristics are its crumbly nut crust, jam filling, lattice top, and powdered sugar dusting. So many recipes have been penned over time that there's even a museum in Austria that houses the largest collection of historical Linzer torte recipes!
