“ I chose the following elements for this blend for how the relate to the character in the following ways:
*honeybush hazelnut (had to have hazelnut in this one because of his hazel eyes)
*lapsang souchang (a very manly tea, and Vince is an alpha male for sure)
*masala chai (for a spicy kick and to mix things up, which Vince is very good at ... both kicking things and mixing things up...)
*red peppercorn inclusion (unexpected, fiery, and in-your-face. Like Vince.)
I was a little nervous about trying this one. Opening the bag, the blend just says, 'Yeah. Go ahead and try to drink me. I'll give you a kick right in the jaw!' Which is, of course, a perfect representation of Vince.
It smells kinda like spice and smoke and musk. And it sticks in your nose. But, brew it up and wow, not as weird as I thought it'd be! Earthy and kind of herbal with a bit of cinnamon. Cloves. A little spicy, but not hot. A bit of acidic sweetness. A little pepper. Can definitely taste the lapsang souchang, but it's not overwhelming. It's warming and strangely comforting, actually.
A bit of brown sugar added softens the smokiness of the lapsang souchang and brings out the cinnamon more.
Add a little cream or milk to that and now it's kind of like a smoky chai, but with a more subtle chai flavor than a straight chai blend. If a manly study with dark lacquered wooden walls and musty mysterious books and a decanter of brandy could be turned into a tea ... this would be it.
Overall impression: I like it. It's the weirdest blend of flavors in the most unusual tea I've ever tried, but it works somehow. A peppery, smoky chai, which I could see being very lovely on a freezing winter day. Like today! Also, it feels like it would be good to sip if you had a cold. It's just what I'd imagined it would be, really, and just completely perfect for the character of Vince Dannel!
Result: SUCCESS! ”
