How do you make a cup fit for a champion? How do you make a fit champion, for that matter? Something deep--or something zingy? Something sweet or something mellow? Does he give a spicy kick, a zesty flavor, or is he rich and warm and comforting as a favourite chair by the hearth? Or do you give up and let the reader decide? Well, it's a little of this, a little of that, and the kitchen sink. Masala chai--not too spicy, not too hot--is the base; a rich caramel paired with indulgent chocolate and hazelnut speak of Hightown decadence; a scoop of ginger is that sudden note Hawke always strikes when entering a room. If he tasted of anything, it'd be bad jokes--and a flavor you can't get anywhere else, one that lingers in the heart via the throat.
