10th President John Tyler's first wife Letitia Tyler died a year and a half into his presidency. She is the first First Lady to die while her husband was President. As the first incumbent presidential wife to die, Letitia Tyler's funeral was of considerable public acknowledgement.
He remarried three years later and Julia Tyler became the First Lady and served with him throughout the rest of his presidency.
