Vita Sackville-West was an English novelist, poet, journalist, and garden designer. Part of the Bloomsbury Group, she was especially intimate with Virginia Woolf, to whom she was both a friend and, at times, a lover. Being a skilled gardener, she often wrote of cultivated (and uncultivated) natural spaces including orchards, vineyards, and flowerbeds.
