A warmer, smokier chai for those of you that like the Starbucks style Chai Latte. Vanilla black tea to bring out the flavors of the traditional masala chai and just a hint of toasted mate to give it the warm, smoky flavor of a street vendor boiling chai over a flame.
Add a few black peppercorns and/or a pinch of cayenne for a more intense cup with a bite. I recommend boiling 1tsp with 6oz water for at least 10 minutes to bring out the full flavor of the tea. Then serve 2/3 tea to 1/3 whole milk and 2Tbsp agave nectar for a sweet treat. Normally I brew a pot at a time and refrigerate the sweetened (no milk) tea in a mason jar.
