Honeybush is indigenous to the cape of South Africa. It is used to make a medicinal tea, having a pleasant, mildly sweet taste and aroma, somewhat like honey. The traditional use of the tea for treating cough may be explained, in part, by its content of pinitol, a modified sugar that is similar to inositol. Pinitol, named for its major source, pine trees, is also found in the leaves of several legume plants; it is an expectorant.
My husband, the coffee drinker, tried this blend for the first time this morning and said, 'wow, that is really good....if people knew how good this tastes they would be buying it up so fast!' This is from a guy who doesn't dish out compliments much at all. I was actually shocked by his reaction. I know how delicious I think it is--and I know how much my stepdaughter likes it--but my husband...he is usually pretty hard to please. It made me happy. :)
