In the Hebrew Bible, pomegranates are a popular feature. Sewn onto the high priest's robes, they were engraved on the two pillars in front of Solomon's temple as well. The fruit is mentioned in the Song of Songs and the Prophets and is listed in Numbers as one of the items found in the Promised Land. Though some scholars believe pomegranate was the forbidden fruit, Jewish tradition also claims it represents righteousness, with one seed for every command in the Torah. In many countries and traditions, it represents fruitfulness and abundance.
