Darjeeling Sungma Summer is a second flush black tea from the famous Darjeeling region of India. Darjeeling tea is treasured for its rich golden liquor and distinctive muscatel (a type of grape) flavor. This tea scores high on both counts. Bright and aromatic, floral muscat grape aroma with notes of warm spice and sugary squash. Plush, tangy mouthfeel with a sweet finish and balanced astringency. This excellent summer harvest (second flush) of Darjeeling black tea comes from the highly regarded Sungma Estate.

“ The Darjeeling Sungma Summer tea receives consistent praise for its light, smooth qualities, with a delicate balance of fruity and floral notes that many enjoy both hot and iced. Reviewers often highlight its subtle sweetness and mild astringency, making it a versatile choice for different preparation methods. The aroma is described as rich and inviting, reminiscent of fresh flowers and ripe grapes. While some found it slightly weaker than expected, the absence of an unpleasant aftertaste and its refreshing nature have made it a favorite. Its ability to be enjoyed unsweetened or with a hint of sugar adds to its appeal. This tea is celebrated for its high quality, with recommendations for those new to Darjeeling teas or seeking a sophisticated, satisfying brew. ”
“ UPDATED from 12/7/23: This is a really nice Darjeeling. I like the autumn Darjeeling better, but this is still very smooth and friendly, with a subtle fruity note and little astringency. Steeped 4 min @ 195º. ”
“ Earthy aromas were noted in my communiTEA packet.
I had 3.19 grams of tea, enough for a medium strength 13 ounce steep. I steeped at 200°F. After 3.5 minutes, when the tea leaves had stopped falling, I pulled the steep.
When hot, mildly bitter cocoa flavors were noted. I added ¼ teaspoon of sugar smooth-out tastes .
When warm, a very nice champagne-like mouthfeel was noted. Unsweetened dark cocoa hints were noted in the background.
A pleasant amount of astringency was noted throughout my sip. If you want to know what a muscatel taste is, this tea will educate you for sure! This was an outstanding second flush Darjeeling indeed! (3.5 mins @ 200ºF, ¼ tsp sugar) ”
“ I was excited to have this again in CT so I could do it justice. This was a malty flavored tea that had a few musky notes. It was enjoyable on both steeps although the second was much lighter. 2.77g, 200 for 3.5 minutes - 11 oz. 5/20/2024. ”

Lore
The Himalayas are the collective ranges of mountains that separate India and the Tibetan plateau. They include several of the world's highest mountains, including Mount Everest, and are split into several parallel ranges. Darjeeling, a region in the Indian state of West Bengal, lies in the Lower Himalayan range, where it has a clear view of Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain. The location is also ideal for growing tea, as made clear by Darjeeling tea, which is one of the most prized teas in the world and can only be grown in that region.
