Our Throat Therapy tea blend is just what your sore throat is thirsty for. The warm and soothing embrace of sweet licorice, calming anise, and fresh raspberry leaves are a trifecta of comfort. We recommend sipping this one with a bit of honey for that added coating effect.

AI Bot Summary
based on most popular reviews
This Throat Therapy tea appears to have a polarizing effect, especially due to its prominent licorice and anise flavors which some find too overpowering, while others appreciate its soothing properties. The blend is praised for its effectiveness in relieving sore throats, with the slippery elm noted for creating a pleasant coating sensation. Some reviewers have embraced its medicinal benefits despite the flavor, finding it an essential in their wellness arsenal. Others suggest adding honey to enhance its healing qualities. Regardless of the divided opinion on taste, it’s widely regarded as a reliable remedy for throat discomfort and a staple for those seeking natural relief.

All ingredients appeared to be present in my communiTEA packet. I really liked this one, It made my mouth and throat happy. The licorice was naturally sweet. Don’t even think about adding any sugar! The slippery elm made for a pleasant coating of all flavors in my mouth. I loved this blend so much, that I’ve already purchased and received an order for more on 18 Aug. This one is heavy duty in flavor! (5 mins @ 212°F, no sugar)

UPDATED from 9/11/21: Healing teas are so beneficial - if you can stand the flavor. My Oh My - the licorice and anise are strong with this blend. Unfortunately they are the very two flavors my tongue rebels against. The CommuniTEA ingredients steep into a pale gold color, but there is nothing pale about the flavor. The cinnamon is strong- but not strong enough to cover up the powerful licorice and anise flavors. All three tastes gallop fiercely together over my tongue, riding into the sunset of the finish. I attempt to drink this - but since my throat is fine - I cannot. If you like black licorice and anise, this is a good way to soothe a sore throat. Hot tea with lemon and honey does work! ( 5 mins @212ºF).

The flavor of this tea reminds me of Thayer’s Slippery Elm throat lozenges. I grew up with those in our medicine cabinet to soothe an irritated throat. They worked well. No danger in having too many because after one or two, the flavor was overwhelming and too sweet to eat more, even for sweet tooths like me. The flavors in this blend have the same licorice, aniseed and slippery elm taste as those lozenges. They are helpful for a sore throat but are not joyful together for a delightful sip. The flavor is too distinct and sweet. The other ingredients stayed mostly behind the scenes. Funny enough, a rooibos honey add was helpful with its dark earthy flavor in toning down some of the sweetness and dominant licorice flavor.

My CT packet had 3 g/ 2 tsp of chunky herbal pieces and brewed into a golden peachy colored liquor with a slight cloudiness. I brewed 14 oz. at 212*F for 5 min. and made one cup. I can appreciate this tea for its helpfulness with throat issues. It deserves 5 stars for that but as a pleasure sip it gets 3 stars and splitting the difference, it rates 4. For licorice/aniseed lovers this tea will make you happy. Whether sipped as a tasty tea or a throat soother, it does its job well.

Ingredients & Lore

blended with licorice, raspberry leaves, cinnamon, hibiscus, orange, aniseed & slippery elm

Licorice is a plant from the bean family most used for its root. The root, which is up to fifty times sweeter than sugar, can be chewed on by itself as a treat or used to flavor various types of licorice candies. In the United States, sweet red and black licorices are the most common, though there are other varieties that are popular in Europe, including salty black licorice. Anise, which has a similar flavor to licorice, is also commonly used in licorice candy, though the two plants are unrelated.

I just got my order of throat therapy. It is normal for it to have large clumps of green dried fiber on the top that is not mixed in with the other ingredients. At first I thought it was mold, but I think it is part of the tea. What is it?
