Yunnan Noir is a black tea from the Yunnan province of China, the birthplace of tea itself. Much of the tea in this southern province is a large leaf variety. Grown at 1500 meters above sea level where the mountains are veiled in mist, with clean water and rich soil form ideal growing conditions and contribute to the unique flavor. Our Yunnan Noir is a hand-rolled tea, with leaves tightly curled into a 'black snail' shape. The aroma is sweet with hints of honey and spice. Savory and winey on the palate, with smooth, deep fruity astringency, tremendous depth of flavor, cinnamon bark and nutmeg in the finish. A terrifically textured cup of tea.
Well, we got 6 inches of snow for certain. My wintersowing pots are in a snow "drift" with only their rims showing. They are just over 6 inches in height (detailed Amazon diagram) so I know for sure that my measurements are correct. The precipitation didn't seem to be particularly icy fortunately-- actual SNOW for a change. I have to attempt the trip to work around 4:30am. I take primary roads to work so hopefully it won't be too bad. The city does have plows and salt trucks. We'd been seeing other cars go by without difficulty on our usually busy road. It's the seriously country back roads that are riskier (which I personally won't have to deal with). I'd really rather not go at all of course but stay snug and warm at home. Ah well-- it is what it is. The tyranny of the daily with this particular job-- urgent tasks no matter what.
12:00 am
Be safe out there Angel.
12:01 am
Please be safe, Angel and drive slow!
12:37 am
Drive safely, Angel, at least the people in your area should have a clue how to drive in snow. It could be worse you could have a bunch of California drivers around you. We are really dangerous when we get snow. EDIT: has Jan pointed out some of us do know the rules of driving in snow, unfortunately at least in our area we have a lot of good old boys in their big old trucks and they don't think they apply. Eek, gadzooks! Can you say hydroplaning...
02:48 am
This crew truly isn't much better at snow driving. The good news is not many people are up and at 'em at that hour.
04:28 am
JS
Hey, Michelle, as you know, I’m in CA too, and I know the rules of driving in the snow - what to do and what not to do. I just don’t get any practice so it makes me a bit nervous. Please look out for the people who aren’t practiced and who might not have the best tires, Angel.
02:18 pm
JS
Oooohhhh, hydroplaning - my favorite white knuckler ride! (said no one - at least not me!)
03:03 pm
Angel, I wish you safe travels and a cozy day.
06:36 am
My husband usually has to be to work by 5 am. Sometimes the roads are ok and sometimes they aren't, but there are a lot less people on them at that time to deal with
08:23 am
wow that's a lot to deal with!
05:04 pm
Be safe out there, some places have ice under the snow.
05:08 pm
Today's tea is one of my favorites, sadly, i ran out before my order arrives so I cannot sip along with you later today. Instead, I'll sip some more Golden Spring.
12:14 am
Golden Needle Yunnan today for the win. I love these Yunnan teas. So delicious.
11:47 am
This one makes my brain go closer to "interesting" than "yummy" (although I do like it along with that). It's one of the first loose leaf ones I ever tried, which came about from talking to someone on a writing forum about how I was just starting to try different flavors (but only as tea bags), and she ended up sending me a box with a handful of different ones from Adagio and several other sites.... which is how I originally ended up here. 😊 Happy memories~
12:21 am
I love your memory associations with this tea. 😊
06:30 am
Those first *really* good teas you try are such good memories.
11:48 am
It's so cool how many people know about Adagio and are willing to encourage others to try it. A most delicious tea journey that's for sure. Super friendly too.

January is a big birthday month in my family. My daughter's birthday was yesterday and my 1 y.o. granddaughter's is today and another granddaughter turns 4 on the 21st. Lots of precious Capricorns to celebrate 🥳 and Happy Birthday to tea friends who also celebrate in Jan.!

Hubby was reading about the winter storm tonight; we're sending prayers for all affected.
02:45 am
Good morning, everyone! We're supposed to get plenty of snow today. ❄️🌨 But the good news is I got my time off approved for MLK weekend so we're going to travel to a few places here in the northeast to see trains and transit museums! 😍 We'll also be having tea in an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea house in New York. And we'll probably stop in Baltimore to see their famous aquarium even though that's not trains either. 😝 Hahaha! I am sooo excited! 🤩
03:46 am
Baltimore has a train museum, for the B&O railrood. Baltimore also has a terrific Science Center which is within walking distance of the Aquarium. Since you'll be in the Inner Harbor for the Aquarium visit, be sure to get a MD Crabcake while you're there. Be sure to ask if it's lump crab meat, be sure to ask for it broiled, and make sure it's mostly crab not mostly filler.
04:12 am
Yep, B&O is one of the places we got tickets to. I am super excited! 😍
09:05 am
Grab a homemade bowl of lump crab chowder as well, you won't regret it.If you can stomach sweeter drinks they have a Maryland Crush,.
05:16 pm
The Alice in Wonderland themed tea house sounds like a blast! I hope you can take a picture or two to share with us. I haven't been to the Baltimore Aquarium in ages, but loved it the last time I went. Have a great time!
01:06 pm
I'll definitely try! :D
06:24 pm
JS
Sounds like you’ve got great plans, Cassidy!
03:11 pm
Thanks! Especially on a budget, too. I haven't had a vacation in 8 years, so I'm so glad I can do this.
06:25 pm
So, the power went out in the wee hours and I ended up taking a shower by flashlight prior to work. At least the power came back on shortly afterwards. I would have been so bored waiting for my hair to dry and time to leave without some TV or computer or light. Was twiddling my thumbs. LOL. Lots of trees and plants and little maintenance in our rural areas so power outages happen in all of our bad weather with downed trees or limbs or heavy ice. Time to go now though! :)
04:31 am
I'm glad you got your power back. Safe travels to you.
05:11 am
Good morning fellow tea lovers. I've got a cup of Dancong Aria to sip this morning. I've forgotten how interesting this tea is. It's not really a favorite but is one of those really intriguing teas that's a joy to savor. Once that's done, I'll be enjoying today's packet. Hope you all have a sweet day and aren't hindered by the weather.
05:31 am
Good morning :) Have a great day, everyone!

I'm trying to figure out what my dog is trying to communicate with me. She's been staring at me since about 7:00 last night. It's not a need for food, water, bathroom, or toys. Of course I'm concerned she's in pain or hurt, but I can't find any signs of that either. It's very unusual.
06:29 am
Hmm. Is she maybe just looking for attention? A little playtime or pets, perhaps?
06:34 am
Perhaps a walk?
06:41 am
Hmm... are you feeling okay? Sometimes they can sense things. Check around your house too. Hazel alerted us to an electrical outlet problem once. (She smelled it well before we did)
08:12 am
Good morning! Happy Epiphany! Will anyone be enjoying a King's Cake today?
06:35 am
Good morning tea friends. We have Yunnan Noir in our stash, and it is a beloved staple. I will join you a bit later for a communal cup. This morning hubby is sipping Vietnamese Red and I am indulging in Twyla's wonderful Old Christmas Hygge tea, in honor of this day. It is a lovely blend of Christmas, Spiced Apple Chai and Rooibos Cinnamon Apple. https://www.adagio.com/231701
06:35 am
Merry Ol' Christmas & Blessed Epiphany! Cheers & ALLove 2 U, Mary! I shall be with a Hygge sip soon!
09:44 am
Twyla, it was so good and a perfect start to my day.
04:21 pm
Have a great day!
06:47 am
I'm back to work today 😭😂
06:57 am
Twyla, I love the January bucket list, and I think I will have to try and do some. Question, though: do thank you notes count as handwritten letters? 😅
06:57 am
🙏🏻🕯🫖 Wondrous! Yes, Most Certainly, that counts❣️
09:42 am
Sipping some Yunnan Noir with you all. Have a great day!
07:05 am
Good morning! I hope everyone has a wonderful day ahead!
07:09 am
Home with my son on a snow day today. I must confess, I'm sorely tempted to make a pot of today's tea...
07:31 am
Didja enjoy some Noir?! Hope this means you have some in ye 'ol tea stash❣️
09:43 am
It does, and yes I indulged in a pot... which I just re-steeped. 😇
01:44 pm
Here comes the snow, time for tea!
07:41 am
Stay warm and cozy andrew. We just found out my brother-in-law has been without power for 20 hours. His part of Southeastern Missouri got hit by some serious ice. The temperature is 26° with Winds of 15 miles an hour. Good thing he has wood but he only has about a 24-hour Supply left so let's hope they have a sunny day or two in between now and Friday when the next snow storm is supposed to hit. We're very spoiled here in Southern California.
02:48 pm
Bracing for snowy impact!
07:42 am
Since hubby and I are venturing out to a theater today to see a movie (something we have not done in many, many years), I am going to make my third cup of tea this morning (after two cups of Old Christmas Hygge) All Things Dylan, as we are going to see A Complete Unknown. It is a luscious blend by Ebeth, with Caramel, Sweet Cinnamon Spice, Kentucky Bourbon and pineapple. Yum! I am a folkie at heart. https://www.adagio.com/212895
07:52 am
Have fun on your movie date. My husband and I want to see that.
08:14 am
Carrie, I am really looking forward to it. I love music, and hearing it in a big theater is such a treat. Apparently (from the reviews), Timothee Chalamet does a great job of portraying Dylan. I'm impressed that he spent five years preparing for the role...learning to play guitar and sing. From what I have read all of the singing is done by the cast. Should be interesting.
08:56 am
Cheers on the Old Christmas Hygge! ....This shall be my 2nd cuppa!!
09:32 am
The second cup was just as good as the first!
04:23 pm
Have fun Mary! I can’t wait to see it after I’m safely not contagious. Great tea as well!!!
01:50 pm
Janet, we planned our theater visit well. There was only one other person in the theater. The movie was fantastic. We are going back Thursday to see Wicked.
04:24 pm
Good morning! Today's pic is of Mary A's daughter at her baby shower yesterday. It was a beautiful day 💙🩷
07:56 am
Good morning, lovely Adagians. Happy Monday! I'm getting a late start this morning. We're snowed in and so I slept late. It's not that we have a ton of snow, but there's also ice and sleety stuff, with more slated of the white and wet stuff later in the day. Schools and businesses are closed for the most part, so, we're all snuggling in here at home, intending to enjoy an unexpected, but much appreciated day of my husband staying home from work. So we're very happy about that. Yay! I hope your day is off to a great start and that you're all staying safe and warm. Those of you who have to venture out in this bad weather, please be careful. God bless and have a super day! 😇🙏🎶🫖❄️...
08:11 am
My kind of day! Grab a good book and sip a lot of tea.
08:56 am
Sounds like a plan to me, Mary! I hope you and your husband are doing well. 😇😇😇

Thanks to everyone for the concerns and cautions about driving to work this morning. I'm safely home now and only have to repeat the experience once more before three days off. Roads weren't too bad except as I turned off the main road onto our smaller road. The car was sliding a little which was nerve wracking (but brief!). A couple photos of the backyard at this link if you scroll down... https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1H4VTkFXvU/

Hello, Woodie! Please say hello to Irishman and give Peanut a scratch for me!
11:06 am
Good morning!
09:15 am
Good morning, Orchid! How are you today tea pal?
09:24 am
So, the communiTEA peeps up north, how much snow or rain did everyone get???
09:27 am
Right now, we have about an inch ❄️, in thee NePa region of the mtns...
09:29 am
In the news they were saying that some place got like a gazillion inches!!! lol I know the snow is beautiful but please be safe everyone and this is coming from a New york and Pennsylvania boy.
09:34 am
Nor that much outside of Philadelphia yet. The trouble is timing. The snow started about the time schools would have started bussing...The estimated totals for the day are between 2-4 inches in my area. We'll see.
09:37 am
Hardly any. The winds were too strong here for them to pick up much moisture from Lake Ontario. Winds too strong = very little lake effect snow!
11:07 am
A fair amount here, Woodie, and it's started up again. A bit of the slushy, sleety stuff as well. It's a good day to stay home and indoors. How is Irishman doing? Best to all of you. God bless...😇🫖❄️😇
04:22 pm
Hello, Marlicia: it's the old man and I can answer you. :) my arms ect just hurt so much, just surgery after another hard to type long. please keep me in your prayers. keeps safe in the bad weather.

~~Blessed Epiphany & Old Christmas, Día de los Reyes, St. Hywyn Day~~🙏🏻🕯🫖🎄📿
09:38 am
Good morning CT! No snow here just frigid temperatures. Bundling up well as the wind is bitter. Stay warm everyone.
09:51 am
Good morning 🌞 Stay safe and warm CommuniTEA.
09:54 am
Good morning and it’s also Nollaig na mBan … Women’s Christmas. Celebrates the hard work of women through the Christmas season and a day for them to relax. Not much relaxation for me today, though. Since hubby’s stroke, I’m the chauffeur and it’s a therapy day for him. Off to clear off the car. After today’s tea, however 😄🫖
10:00 am
I can relate! But like you it may just be for an hour or two I can carve out in the day.😊
10:14 am
I was looking forward to this one! It’s a favorite. My decision was milk or no milk -especially since I have to do a plant based milk. I opted to drink the first half without just to enjoy the pure tea flavor but I have to admit that milk brings out the distinct Yunnan sweetness and is my favorite.
10:10 am
Ahoy............do I see other Gents in the communiTEA house??? Lol
10:16 am
Good morn all! A mix of rain, sleet and snow throughout the day. Definitely calls for some strong black tea!
10:24 am
While I'm currently waiting for more Yunnan Noir to be shipped to me, I am sipping on some Yunnan Jig. Its yummy too, but Noir is my fave.
10:29 am

This morning my tea is Reindeer Fuel, am trying to use up the tin. Had some Slumbering Sloth last night for the first time—which is pretty much the opposite in theory. 🥱😳 Anyone else still DDTS?
10:32 am
Most of my stash is for cooking - my drinking stash is much smaller....and I run out frequently. Does CDTS count?

Cooking with tea? Other than matcha?
01:12 pm
Yes. Been hitting Irish Stout and Cinco de Mayo hard before this year's releases. I like the marshmallow in Cinco a lot with the cooler weather.
11:08 am
Can't wait for more Cinco! I am def gonna get two 3oz of it because both my Mum and I like it, quite a bit and I really had to make the one baf stretch!
My DDTS project will begin when my birthday order arrives...so many gifts. Thank you all!
01:43 pm
PM
Mine too, Anneke 🤣
08:43 pm
I am still DDTS and finally finished a sample size of spiced apple chai this morning.
06:25 pm
PM
Anne, I completely tanked mine during my birthday month. It’s back to DDTS this month. It’s a continual process and struggle🫖
08:45 pm
Just finished shoveling (thought I would have to go in to work, but I don't) and will probably have to do a second round once the storm stops, but at least then it'll be less work. And now making a cup of Earl Grey Moonlight to help warm up. I hope everyone's staying safe and warm!
10:49 am
marvelous monday, all!
11:09 am
Happy Monday, everyone! I'm teaching my first class ever in a couple of hours and I am Definitely Not freaking out
11:38 am
Regina, I hope it went well!
08:22 pm
You’ve got this Regina!
11:21 pm
Yesterday's baby shower was beyond elegant. The food was excellent. The ambient environment simply stunning as my sister in law did an amazing decorating with custom decor creations of evergreens, various greenery, white roses, and real Birch. I made 16 prize baskets, one was an Adagio basket with a elegant cup and saucer, stainless kettle, tin tea, bagged tea, single packets, big bags, adagio's famous $5 certificate and a target gift card to buy their choice of steeping vessel. I approached the winner and began to explain Adagio as she seemed a little confused what some content was. I showed her the CT, all links for tea, coffee, spice, honey and Masters, this one seemed to be her favorite. She's hooked. I'll let you know if she arrives in CT. As for my twins grand babies to come, they were so spoiled that it took 2 pick up trucks, 1 SUV, and a car to take all their welcoming gifts home. If only I could post a picture.... Now to sip some Yunnan noir, Thanks Karen.
11:40 am
Wow, that sounds like a really beautiful celebration. Congratulations on the soon-to-arrive babies.
01:22 pm
Just save the photo for next month Mary A.
11:23 pm
Snow sucks (IMHO) but I love towns that have creatively named snowplows. Like Ctrl Salt Delete, Taylor Drift, Scoop Dogg, PlowyMcPlowface. I mean, hilarious. I hope everyone is doing ok in the storm zone. Happy Sipping!
11:47 am
Well, it is back to school and work today. It will be nice to be synced with a routine again. It is quiet in the house as I work. The kids were home for 19 days. One kid was excited to see her friends, the other was a bit apprehensive and wanted to stay home. I made a big cup of Assam harmony since I didn't sleep well last night. Hope everyone has a good first Monday of the year.
11:51 am
I am working from home because the roads are still considered hazardous—so much snow and ice.
12:10 pm
Boo, someone drank my Yunan Noir! At least I have tried it before, but still LOL
12:39 pm
AD
Who would steal your tea?? Family? Co-worker? Not nice. 😕
01:10 pm
Oh you know family. They are well meaning but sometimes absent minded about pulling some tea from my stash clearly labeled 'Mom's Tea' in the tea cabinet. Teenagers...and husbands...sigh!!!
08:34 pm
Too snowy for me to drive to work, so looks like I'm staying in for the evening. I'll probably paint or crochet or something, but for sure I'll be drinking lots of tea.
Wish it were snowing here! Just a rainy, cool day.
01:29 pm
Good afternoon all. I have the ornaments off both trees and will start working on the manger scene, etc. next. I had 2 delicious cups of Irish Stout this morning and sweetened them with chocolate whipped honey. So good. I feel back on the road to recovery and plan to take a walk with Star soon. No snow here, just very cold!
01:55 pm
Janet, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better. Our house is now completely deChristmatized! Oops...well, almost. The stable for the nativity still needs to be taken down and stored and I need to take the white snowflake lace and red tablecloths off of the table on which it was placed. However...other than that, the job is done!
04:32 pm
Good morning, I hope everyone is having a good Monday! This is my first time having straight Yunnan tea, and I love it. I immediately recognized the taste from blended teas I've had. This is a great learning experience for my tea journey!
01:59 pm
Perfect tea for today tea friends. I brewed it for five minutes. I spent a half hour putting ice melter down. Light snow melted to a thin coat of ice, just enough to make walking and driving on untreated roads a bit slippery. I called my husband to buy additional ice melter, I used almost all the ice melter we had in the garage. I didn’t get a chance to sit down to lunch and my tea until around 1:30. The big snowstorm missed us but lake effect light showers seem to be causing more issues so far this winter.
01:59 pm
Snows coming down strong here. My chickens are not fans of it.
02:02 pm
Aww..I love Chickens!
02:47 pm
JS
Happy Monday, friends. I feel guilty being here in Southern California’s warm weather while reading about the severe storms in many other parts of the country where several of you live. Please stay safe and warm and if you have to drive anywhere, be extra cautious. And as always, brew yourself up lots of cups of comfort tea. Extra snuggles to all the kitties and puppies out there who might not be appreciating the weather - oh, and Dana’s chickens. 🤗
02:12 pm
I'm in Nevada and it's cold but pleasant walking weather. So I get it <3
02:51 pm
Same, my team in Chattanooga complaining about snow and I am over here not mentioning 71 and beautiful.
08:38 pm
Love all the Yunnan variants... this one's especially tasty
02:58 pm
I agree
03:33 pm
Got the review features working today, and was able to upload a photo. Thanks for the help, everyone!
04:19 pm
I don't have today's tea but it sounds delicious. I've been sipping some lemon ginger tea to ease my sore throat.
04:37 pm
Oh, it's definitely worthy of picking up, or at least putting on a WL :D Hope you feel better soon.
04:42 pm
just stopping in to say hi! The Glow Show went great, lots of artists showed their new blacklight art. We’re going to have a closing show too, when I join the CT again in February I’ll share some pictures of that :)
05:00 pm
Also, shout out to the person who bought a giant tin of my Meowrlin blend!! I should probably order one for myself just to have a tin with my art on it :)
05:01 pm
Hello, lovely Adagians. Quick question for you. Is anyone else having trouble posting reviews? I get everything entered in, but I am not allowed to post. They are older purchases, but that never made a difference in the past. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. God bless...😇😇
05:04 pm
I'm happy to ask on TeaChat this week, if the problem persists!
06:18 pm
Thank you, Twyla, that's much appreciated. I don't often make the TeaChats. God bless...😇🫖😇
06:22 pm
Several of you joined my "ingredients for TeaChef Fandom". I'm letting you know that since most of my recipes will not be on TeaChef, I'm therefore renaming my fandom to "Cooking with Tea". So if you're wondering why old links may not work, this may be the reason. I'll be doing this all day, as its a slow process. I have to correct the artwork. So for now, until i finish, the blends are in a combination of both fandoms.
06:05 pm
I think I was a member of your TeaChef Fandom, but will go and look for "Cooking with Tea". Thanks for the heads up, Khrissi. God bless...😇🫖😇 EDIT: I found it, but couldn't figure out how to join the fandom...oh, wait, you're not finished yet, LOL
06:17 pm
I'll let you know when it's ready, Marlicia. Thanks for being a member :)
07:40 pm
Today's tea is a good one for me. Unflavored blacks like this are my preference, and yunnans are one of the specific types I tend to favor. I tried to add a bag to come with my next CommuniTEA box and it said it was already in my queue. I guess we had this within the past month, and I added it then, too. :D
06:28 pm
I hope all of you stay warm and safe. ❄️❄️
06:35 pm
298 days till Halloween 💜🎃💜 it's a downright brutally cold day, everything is encased by ice and topped with a dusting of snow, grateful I didn't have to leave the house today. This is one of my favorite teas, and such a warm treat, I hope everyone has a moment to just sit, relax and enjoy your cup. My picture today is, frog & toad, Jake, is obsessed with frog & toad, since they were a huge part of his childhood, he got these little guys for Christmas, I came out to find them cuddled up and covered with a blanket on the couch. Absolutely adorable 💜🐈⬛💜 stay warm and safe today dear tea friends 😘

If you were a member, or would like to be a member, of my *Cooking with Tea Fandom, the new one is operational. You can join now, but I"ll promote the wheel once I get all the teas moved over. https://www.adagio.com/signature_blend/group.html?group=25810

Had a nice quiet day at work, a fun class with my littles, and now I’m winding down with some homemade okonomiyaki. Hope everyone had a good day!

I want to highlight a tea blend by Michelle Levan called Natasha. It is a lovely tea with black cherry, honeybush vanilla and decaf apricot. I cold steeped it overnight in the fridge and it was wonderful! This would be a refreshing iced tea in the summer. I also expect it is delicious using a standard brew with hot water too. https://www.adagio.com/180297&searchTerm=nata

Awe man, lost all of my streaks yesterday, traveling is great but I am ready to be back home, tomorrow morning we fly home
09:55 pm
memories made are almost always better than streaks - who likes streaks on their windows? ;)
10:00 pm
Broke my streak because I had already reviewed a tea but forgot to do the other things (picture, chat, etc). So much for keeping up with the new year already lollll. Thank God for fresh starts every day. Keep up with those resolutions guys! 50% success is better than no success, and if you keep at it, maybe that 50 % will turn into 60 and then 70...

Every day is a unique new start ✨

AY
Yunnan teas are one of the teas in my rotation (Keemun and Assam are a couple of others)
10:19 pm
With all the snow and cold most people canceled their appointments. We still have to be open the whole day regardless, just in case someone needs to be seen. It sure makes for a boring day. Tomorrow I will allow myself to sleep in, something I have not done in a long time.
10:21 pm
Good evening. The ice is so bad that I can't get into my car due to the handles and doors on my car are frozen shut
11:23 pm
Brrrrrr
11:30 pm
Tastes good for a plain tea!

Love love love the black Yunnan teas! Also love the beauty of winter and natural insulation of snow… as long as people are keeping safe out there. 🥰
