β I noticed that everybody was having a fiesta inside my communiTEA packet today! The safflower threads and red chilies were doing the Salsa. The one lone coconut flake was dancing with joy! Moderate coconut and chili aromas were noted.
When steeping, buttery green tea and chili flavors became noticeable at the two and a half minute mark. I didnβt want the chili to overpower the other flavors, so I pulled the steep at this point and continued on with my review.
When hot, strong chili and mild coconut flavors were noted. I add a bit of sugar in hopes of bringing out more flavors.
When warm, chili zings moderated. Very pleasant Key Lime pie, green tea buttery and coconut flavors were noted, which really helped to take the bite out of the chilies. Lemongrass flavors were noticeable in the background. The apple pieces assisted in the distribution of flavorings. However, the orange decided not to participate today.
I am a registered Chilihead! I grow and dry chili peppers in pots on the backyard deck in the summer ... chiltepins & habaneros mostly.
I really had a fun and festive time sipping and reviewing this blend! My taste buds and mouth got a workout today. This was a very savory and spicy drink indeed, only to be sipped. Your head will fall off if you gulp it! This tea was an outstanding multi-layered sip. All flavors had a chance to participate. A second steep was milder, but still tasty. This oneβs a keeper! β UPDATED from 2/11/21: Wow - a lime/coconut aroma wafts up from the CommuniTea packet, and it steeps into a light golden color. It smells of key lime, which is sweet. The sweet key lime flavor hits my tongue, but is immediately followed in contrast by a strong HOT pepper that stings, and lingers into the finish. WOW, this is intriguing, and surprisingly enjoyable, although the coconut is only in the aroma and not the taste.. It is a real βwake upβ cup of tea - spicy HOT, HOT, HOT! But good. β Not quite my style
Chili tea is not for me
now I know this, though
(Old Haiku review)
I love the fragrance
The concept is quite unique
But I just cannot
Spiced versus spicy
Spiced is cinnamon and cloves
Spicy is peppers!
I now must debate
Is spicy tea, tea for me?
Nope, but spiced tea is!

β Oh my! This is so different....and so good!!! The hot kick of chili pepper goes so well with the sweet citrus background. The sweet taste comes first....then the heat sneaks up behind! Lovely! So different! So glad I ordered this! Not for the faint of heart....but for those like me who love spicy foods and hot peppers....it's a great experience!
2/11/21 - I love this tea when I have a cold or on nights when we make spicy meals for supper. I add a bit of lime juice and sweeten with stevia. Tea....with a bit of a kick! :)
3/19/2023 - Still love, love, love this tea with a kick! Brewed it with Irish Stout when another CT member recommended brewing with a chocolate-y tea -- amazing!! And, fully on board with Elizabeth's recommendation to mix with decaf raspberry. Totally delish! β
β Kick up your heels, this is a hot cuppa as in chili cook-off hot. A capsaicin experience with a twist of lime. Upon opening my CommuniTEA packet today, the scent of chili was first off the block followed by a strong presence of coconut and a moderate aroma of lime. Next, onto the scale for the weigh-in at a healthy 4 grams of ingredients. The mix looked fairly well balanced and included 3 nice sized pieces of apple and 2 large strips of coconut. Then off to the infuser in a 16 oz. cup. The first steep at 180F. for 3 full minutes yielded a pale yellow-green liquor that was quite subdued in aroma compared to that of the dry tea. But I was not fooled, I knew what was coming.
Sipped hot, this tea was... well... hot! The chili pepper went into full action to sting my palette in a delightful way because I adore spicy hot food and beverages. The chili masked all the other flavors until the tea cooled somewhat. The tang of lime aided by orange and lemongrass was detected next followed by a yummy coconut flavor for the finish. The apple and safflower were either aiding and abetting the chili flavor as carriers or trying as hard as they could to hose the fire. A dry mouthfeel at the end let me know the green tea base was not to be ignored. It brought some astringency to the sipping experience. I steeped another cup for a little longer this time using less water for another fire breathing round. This is a love it or leave it tea. Iβm lovinβ it and canβt leave it. And in the cart it goes. β
