Swap your morning dose of caffeine with this cup of golden goodness. It's caffeine free, but the warming spiciness of ginger and the slight fiery kick of black peppercorn will surely wake you up. With a creamy sweetness from the coconut milk and maple syrup, health enhancing turmeric, and a perfectly balanced spice mix, this Turmeric Chai Tea Latte might just become the reason you crawl out of bed in the morning!
Scientific research has shown that a morning routine has the ability to increase happiness, reduce procrastination, boost confidence, and improve overall performance for the day. Since implementing Adagio's
Golden Turmeric Chai, I've been obsessed with my morning routine. If you're in need of some extra A.M encouragement this winter, I highly suggest giving this latte recipe a try!
Often referred to as a morning miracle worker, this latte also works as an afternoon pick-me-up. Think of it as just enough of a kick to power through the day, with energy gently leveling out afterwards. You get the benefits of turmeric, the flavor of sweet chai, and a boost from the zing of peppercorn without the full-on jolt from caffeinated alternatives. Enjoy a cup for a cozy night in, or for subtle re-energizing purposes; the options are endless.
But, for those of you that LOVE coffee and the caffeine power-surge it gives, I have one thing to say to you: no latte drinker left behind! Make your latte according to the directions, and then add in a shot of espresso or a few ounces of strongly brewed coffee for a Dirty Turmeric Chai Tea Latte.
What is Turmeric?
Notorious for its bright yellow color and frequent appearance in Asian cuisine, this spice has gained popularity in both the nutrition and culinary industries. With an earthy aroma and flavor profile that is slightly peppery and bitter with a subtle ginger taste,
turmeric is easily distinguished amongst its other spice counterparts. The numerous health benefits of turmeric have been acknowledged by nearly every health professional, so I'm sure you've heard it all before. But if you haven't, here's the sparknotes version: it's widely known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and ability to reduce onset of chronic disease.
Why Coconut Oil?
Although optional, one thing we can be certain of, is that the addition of coconut oil to this recipe will increase richness and creaminess tenfold. Coconut oil also contains MCT's (medium chain fatty acids), which have been found to aid in nutrient absorption.
What's So Special About Turmeric Chai?
If you're not already convinced, this chill Turmeric Chai Latte is bursting with cinnamon, ginger, and clove flavor steeped in a sweet coconut milk. Starting your morning with this warm and soothing drink will cover all your daily turmeric needs.
The Recipe
This recipe makes 1 serving.
Ingredients
1 cup coconut milk
2 tsp
Golden Turmeric Chai1/2 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey)
2 tsp coconut oil (optional)
Equipment
Pot
Tea strainer or cheesecloth
Directions
In a pot, warm the coconut milk in a saucepan over medium heat until warm and begins to steam.
Remove from the heat, add in the tea and cover with a lid. Let steep for 5 minutes.
Tip: For this step we highly recommend using a tea strainer as it not only helps keep the loose tea leaves together, but is the easier method.
Once finished brewing, strain the milk using a cheesecloth, or if using a tea strainer, remove the tea strainer.
Place the milk back on the heat. Add in the remaining ingredients and bring the mixture to a simmer.
Remove from heat, pour into a glass and serve.
NotesFor a hack to make our Turmeric Chai Tea Latte at work or on the go, steep the tea into your milk the night before and keep in your fridge overnight. In the morning, simply add the coconut oil, liquid sweetener, and microwave your milk until heated through.
For an elevated presentation, you can blend the finished drink to create a foamy latte and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
